Poetry and the body workshop: What the body knows
As part of Kundiman’s participation in this year’s Poetry Coalition initiative, Where My Dreaming and My Loving Live: Poetry & the Body, I’m thrilled to offer a free, two-hour generative workshop on this theme.
This workshop invites participants to use the breath and movement to tap into our body-knowledge. We’ll aim to write from a place that transcends the logic of language toward a liberatory poetics.
The workshop will be particularly focused on the lived, bodily experience of queerness and race. I encourage queer, trans folks, Black people, Indigenous people, and people of color to attend. It is appropriate for all levels of writing experience.

What to bring
Dress comfortably; be prepared to move.
Bring a notebook and pen, and a yoga mat or a beach/bath towel.
- The workshop will be held at my house in Dorchester, MA, accessible by the T.
- Space is limited; workshop will be capped at 6 people.
- I have a Wheaton terrier, who is very friendly and generally calm, but he is an exuberant greeter. He is also hypoallergenic. If this poses a problem for you, please let me know and we can work something out.
- Accessibility: Unfortunately, the house is not wheelchair accessible. There are two small steps to the front door. The workshop will be held on the first floor. It is not a completely scent-free space.
If you are interested in participating, please fill out this form by 3/20.
Because space is so limited, participants will be chosen by lottery. You will receive an email by 3/24 to let you know the status of your registration. I look forward to hearing from you!
